Ozark Extreme: A Racers Story

The trail headed in the general direction of CP 2 so, not knowing the trails, we took off in that direction. Unfortunately, it dead ended at a ravine. Bike whack time! About 20 minutes of fun times and we were in the correct “Hollow”. We verified where we were, but there was no point to be found! We went up, verified some features, then went down, and verified some features. No point. Let’s relocate to the road and work our way up. A solo guy was with us at the time and we swept the hillside heading back to the road. Found it! It was sitting on a trail. Grumble, grumble, grumble...Onward!

CP 3 was cake. CP 4 was too. Ride, ride, ride...same with 5. Basically, our “navigation” to this point was to follow a trail to each point. CP 6 was at the top of “Twin Knobs”. We had been up that beast the day before. Mucho climb to CP 6. The trail zigzagged and worked up to the point. Fun times coming down!!

To the kayaks! We love the water! It’s by far our greatest strength. We wish all races had at least 5 hours of paddling (NOT!!). We paddle downwind, yell out our number, and paddle back before you can say “missing checkpoint”. Piece of cake (except for the headwind on the way back)! Took about 25 minutes.
