By Cory WallaceIt is just over 12 hrs till the gun goes off for the 2nd annual TransMexicana mtb race.
This yrs version is starting in the Pacific village of Huatulco and will take the competitors across 765 km of terrain in 6 days to the East coast city of Vera Cruz. Last yr the course was done in reverse, with 2 time Mexican National XC Champion Lupillo Cruz taking the victory by a mere 22 seconds over myself, and 46 minutes over third place finisher Travis Macey.
This years race promises to be even more competitive as Cruz is back to defend his title and I´m back for avengence and have brought along my riding buddy Simon Tremblay. There are also rumours of a couple other strong Mexicans and Americans showing up on the line. Last years race scared away most of the competitiors as only 4 have returned to challange the relentless course.
The Organizers (Original Extreme Experience) know how to challange the competitiors, pushing them up 2000 meter climbs and across 200 km scorching hot deserts and through endless spectatular landscapes and 7 different climatic zones. What is about to unfold tomorrow will be something I gurantee every rider will remember for the rest of their lives. |
